How to cleanse the right way.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Well here it is again. Detox and dieting season is upon us!
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
As a nutritionist these words make me cringe.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
I don’t encourage a harsh diet or detox as a replacement to a healthy lifestyle. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Not only is it ineffective, but it can also be dangerous.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
If you don’t have proper functionality of elimination pathways, enhancing liver detox can result in even more toxic by products circulating in your system. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This can also be a huge stressor on your system especially if you are experiencing chronic stress or adrenal fatigue. ⠀
⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Instead of restricting and forcing our bodies to go through an exhausting process, let’s support our bodies to function optimally on a regular basis. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
So, what are some simple ways you can do this?
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• add more veggies 🌱to get those vitamins and minerals needed for proper liver function.
• drink warm lemon 🍋water in the morning to flush the liver and get things moving. • add ground flax seed or chia to your meals to promote digestive function. 💩 • avoid processed foods, added sugars, alcohol, and caffeine.🍫
• add cilantro and parsley to your meals to help eliminate toxins and heavy metals. • start a bedtime routine and aim for 7-9 hours of sleep.
• get moving everyday. 🤸‍♀️
• drink 2-3L of pure water everyday.💧
• start a meditation practice to detox negative energy and thoughts and instead focus on healing with good thoughts. 🙏🏻
• sip on liver loving teas like dandelion and burdock.☕️
• eat 1 cup of cruciferous vegetables every day. 🥦
• be gentle and kind with yourself. ❤️
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
F%#* resolutions.
Do you want to start a diet? Lose weight? Eat healthier? Workout?
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
These are all great but most of us don’t stick to them. Why?
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Because these don’t mean anything. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Because it’s not enough saying you want to do something.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
You have to find your reason WHY.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
And quite frankly, it’s a little boring. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
So this year I’m focusing on intentions:
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• to allow the unexpected. And be okay with things not going according to plan.
• to be present in the moment. enjoy the now and to focus less on the future and past. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• to allow more fun and play in my day to day.
• to do the things that I didn’t think I could do. Do them now. • to embody the life that I want. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• to ask for help and support when I need it. • to spread good vibes everywhere I go. • to lose the judgements and expect good from everyone. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• to let my true colors shine instead of hiding parts of myself. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• to speak my truth. Even if it hurts, even if it’s awkward, even if it’s uncomfortable.
• to believe in myself without a shadow of a doubt. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
What are your intentions for 2019? 💫
Well 2018 I dont even know where to start... ✨
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I have been the most proud of myself. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I stood up for myself. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I decided to give my dreams a shot.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I decided to put myself first. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year that I made it a point to do the scary thing instead of the easy thing.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I felt most alive than ever before. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I decided not to take no for answer.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I trusted my gut.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I played on my strengths instead of beating myself up about my weaknesses.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I became my own cheerleader. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This was the year I chose myself. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Why are you proud of yourself this year? 👇

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
What are the best food choices at a party? How you can you avoid the food coma and hangover? How can you feel good and still enjoy the festivities? ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Here are my top tips as we approach NYE:
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• Choose your drinks wisely. 🍷
Red wine and clear spirits such as gin or vodka tonics are your best bet. Or even better kombucha 😉. Avoid heavy sugary drinks like cocktails, white wine, and beer.
For best results stick to 1-3 drinks and stay hydrated throughout the night. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• Load up on the veggies. 🥦I’ve said it before and Ill say it again. Not only will these make you feel full faster they also support proper digestion, reduce the bloat, and support the liver (who we know needs all the help it can get😂).
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• Supplement wisely. 💊
I always bring the necessary supplements when I know options won’t be optimal. I recommend a broad spectrum digestive enzyme for meals or any foods I may not agree with and charcoal for any bloating or hangovers. B vitamins and vitamin C can support recovery and minimize hangovers as alcohol depletes these nutrients. Add some coconut water 🥥 to your smoothie the next morning for a good dose of electrolytes! 🥤
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• Prepare yourself 💪🏻
DO NOT arrive at the party starving. Have a small balanced meal or snack beforehand to stabilize your blood sugar and avoid overeating. This will help you make better choices and stick to them. Hummus with veggies, protein balls, or raw nuts are always good snack options. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
• Be mindful 🙏🏻 You want the cake? 🍰Like really want it? Then have it. And enjoy it. Enjoy every damn bite. Then move on. Don’t dwell. Your body can handle it. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
« The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result.»
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This took me a while to understand 👆🏻
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Saying you are going to do something different doesn’t mean shit. 🤷🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It’s your day to day actions that matter. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
You probably know what you should be doing right?
Eating more vegetables, exercising, going to bed earlier, drinking more water, etc etc etc. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
But why don’t we do it?
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Because knowledge isn’t always enough. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It’s much deeper than that. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It’s about our past, our traumas, our fears, our insecurities.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It’s about facing the parts of ourselves that we don’t really like. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
And we don’t really like going to those places. Do we? ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
I see you. 👀 ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
I know the feeling. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
To feel like a failure. To feel defeated. To hide yourself. To feel helpless. To give up on yourself.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
So when are you going to break the cycle? ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Your mind may be buying the excuses you feed it, but I don’t. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
I’m here to tell you that you are enough. You are worthy. You deserve more. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It’s time you stopped believing all of your excuses.
And it’s time you rose up to your true potential.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
I never said it was going to be easy. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
But i can tell you..
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It will be worth it. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
A thousand times. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

Banana bread recipe is up on the blog! 🍌
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Do you restrict yourself due to PCOS? ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Do you make all treats off limits?
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
What if you could enjoy those foods without the guilt?🍰 ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This banana bread has all the superfoods for a blood sugar balancing and nutritious snack:
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Almonds & walnuts 🌰
Blood sugar stabilizing as they are rich in healthy fats and protein. A study done on PCOS women found eating these daily helped lower androgens and thus symptoms like acne, hirsutism, and hair loss. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Cacao 🍫
Cause who doesn’t like it?! Potent source of antioxidants, which help lower inflammation and improve egg quality. Also rich in magnesium and chromium which support insulin and blood sugar regulation as well as reduce cravings and cvd risk. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Cinnamon
Commonly used as a supplement to re-sensitize insulin receptors and control blood glucose. Add to foods to add some sugar free sweetness. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

No one is coming to save you - you gotta do it yourself 💫
PCOS: what the heck do I do? ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
For years I had a suspicion that I had PCOS. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
But it wasn’t confirmed. So I pushed it away. Forgot about it. Denied it. Dismissed it. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Because not knowing made it less scary. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Sure enough when I found out, it felt like a blow to the stomach. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Cause everything I had read about PCOS was terrifying. All you have to do is read the forums, facebook groups, and google pages to know what I’m talking about. It’s not pretty. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
When it comes to your health, knowledge is power. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
By avoiding the problem I was also avoiding the solution. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Getting a diagnosis finally gave me an answer. Even if it was only ONE answer, the pieces of the puzzle were starting to assemble themselves. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
But then, there was another question; what the heck do I do?! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Have you been asking this question? ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
